We searched for a “cave” and found a “Light of Hope.” Birds, sunlight and a temple inside Batu Caves in Malaysia. Batu Caves, a series of caves and cave temples, is a popular Hindu shrine and tourist attraction near Kuala Lumpur. “The cave you fear to enter holds the treasure you seek,” ~ quote by Joseph Campbell. “A creative and somewhat unusual composition for an Aurora Borealis shot,” wrote the photographer who is “still convinced it’s the entrance to Batman’s secret lair….I just couldn’t resist setting up my gear…and just as I had done some exposures for the foreground, the Aurora show started. Location: Vesterålen in Northern Norway.” Photo #4 by Stian Klo
“One of the most spectacular natural caves I’ve ever adventured into,” said the photographer of Tham Lod Cave in the Mae Hong Son Wilderness, Northern Thailand. “The Lod is a natural limestone cave system, its main feature is the freshwater stream which runs through the middle of the cave for about 200-300 meters. Inside it’s walls are covered with massive formations and columns over 20 meters high, making you feel like very insignificant. Right in the middle of the cave there is no artificial light, so to explore the caverns inside you need a guide with lantern to show you around. This photo was taken just inside the exit of the cave, standing on one of the 50 meter columns overlooking some kayakers making their way downstream after paddling through it. The funnest way to explore the cave is on the water, hiring a kayak from Cave Lodge, and with an experienced guide you can do 2-6 hours kayaking downstream to many more amazing caves. It’s such a rush, and easily the most fun I had in Southeast Asia.” Photo #5 by Drew Hopper
“Against the Sky” is all the more the photographer shared about this autumn scene seen from a cave overlooking a lake. Photo #6 by Jourdan Laik
The photographer looks tiny from under the natural bridge of Imi n’Ifri @ Morocco. It too showed up under “cave” when searching for your armchair travel adventure. Photo #7 by Daniel Santos
“Pure Imagination.” The photographer added, “One of Mt. Hood’s amazing glacial caves. A truly wonderful place that stole my heart. If you look out over the clouds you can see Mt. Hood’s shadow. It was truly spectacular. I can’t wait to get back.” Photo #8 by Andy Best
“Eyes of the cave.” F. Scott Fitzgerald once said, “At 18 our convictions are hills from which we look; at 45 they are caves in which we hide.” Photo #9 by ismail su
“Standing In the Light,” is how the photographer titled this photo of his daughter reaching for the sky. “At the beginning of Derek Cave, an evacuated lava tube in central Oregon, USA, there are a few spots where the ceiling has caved in due to proximity to the ground above. After exploring the cave for an hour (an, oh my, is it ever dark down there) we were returning to the surface when I noticed a light patch on the ground.” Photo #11 by Peter West Carey
“Heaven Cave.” The photographer added, “Cennet and Cehennem (English: heaven and hell) are the names of two big sinkholes on the Toros Mountains, in Mersin Province, Turkey. The sinkholes are among the touristic attractions of the province. Cennet and Cehennem are situated next to each other.” Photo #13 by Engin Asil
Reed Flute Cave in Guilin, China. “If there hadn’t been women, we’d still be squatting in a cave eating raw meat, because we made civilization in order to impress our girlfriends.” ~ quote by Orson Welles. Photo #15 by Adam Allegro
Beautiful Gibraltar at Sunrise. The photographer wrote, “The view of the sunrise from a cave on Mediterranean Steps, Gibraltar. This must have been what attracted the neanderthals to the area.” Photo #20 by Jayden Benyunes
Underground Organ. The photographer added, “The end of the Luray Caverns tour in Virginia, USA. This organ can play music throughout the entire cave system.” Photo #26 by Nicholas Baer
The photographer wrote, “Inside the Orheiul Vechi Monastery carved in a massive limestone cliff.” The Cave Monastery is located in Moldova and overlooks “the gently meandering Răut River. It was dug by Orthodox monks in the 13th century and remained inhabited until the 18th century. In 1996, a handful of monks returned to this secluded place of worship and are slowly restoring it.” Photo #27 by Nick Laborde
Beach Cave. “All art, from the paintings on the walls of cave dwellers to art created today, is autobiographical because it comes from the secret place in the soul where imagination resides.” ~ quote by Gloria Vanderbilt. Photo #28 by Hugh Nelson
Rainbow Cave, frozen waterfall at Minneapolis, Minnesota. “Going behind Minnehaha Falls is tons of fun year round, but during the Winter it freezes into an ice cave that makes it is out of this world. The beautiful cave formed by the frozen 53 foot high urban waterfall is easily accessible by foot with just a short hike. The bright blue glowing ice feels grotto behind the waterfalls and quickly turns into a multi-colored sheet of rainbowed ice as the light shines through.” Photo #30 by dreyco676
“One of the openings to the many cave systems located in the islands of Ha Long Bay.” The photographer added, “The intensity of the midday sun gave a nice lighting effect.” Photo #32 by Ben Ashmole
“Entrance To Nowhere,” is the title from the photographer, but he added, “Entrance to a cave at Backbone State Park.” It was Iowa’s first state park. Photo #33 by Anthony Bopp
Meanwhile from France comes this cave silhouette. “Some humans would do anything to see if it was possible to do it. If you put a large switch in some cave somewhere, with a sign on it saying ‘End-of-the-World Switch. PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH’, the paint wouldn’t even have time to dry.” ~ quote by Terry Pratchett, Thief of Time. Photo #34 by Nicolas Ilinski
Into the cave…on a full moon night. This photo was taken in Los Farallones, a group of islands and sea stacks off the coast of San Francisco, California. Photo #35 by Humans Media Group
